Upon enrollment the student will be assessed using TABE testing (Test of Adult Basic Education). The TABE provides instructors with the information necessary to place students in appropriate study materials. Students may be working individually, on the computer, or in small groups. Each student may work at the pace that they are most comfortable.

Students receive instruction in reading and mathematics, English as a Second Language, or specific academic skills needed for employment.

GED Preparation and Testing

The General Educational Development (GED) test is given quarterly at the Elbert Co. Campus. The GED exam consists of five tests in the areas of writing skills, social studies, science, reading, and mathematics. The tests are designed to enable people who did not graduate from high school to demonstrate that they have acquired the knowledge and skills usually associated with the completion of a four-year high school program of study. In cases where a test session is listed as two days, examinees must attend both sessions to complete the test. Pre-registration is required.

Scholarships are available for Elbert County residents. The requirements are:

  • Enrollment in the Adult Education Center
  • Must attend classes a minimum of 12 hours
  • Must pass each practice test of the GED with a minimum of 450 in each area
  • Cost of the GED test without scholarship is $19.00 per section - total cost of $95.00.
