Industrial Systems Technology

Industrial Systems Technology is an interesting and challenging field.  The Industrial Systems Technology program prepares individuals for successful careers as Industrial Systems Technicians/Electricians.  Students are provided the technical knowledge and skills required by today’s high-tech industry while incorporating online/hybrid education with hands-on technical training. This program has several levels of education students may choose from:

Technical Certificates of Credit-TCCs (17 to 18 credit hours)

TCCs can be earned while working towards a diploma or degree program.  They include:

  • Industrial Fluid Power Technician
  • Industrial Motor Control Technician
  • Industrial Programmable Controllers

Depending on which certificate of credit you choose to pursue, a variety of fundamentals will be learned and incorporated.

Diploma Program (90 credit hours)

Industrial Systems Technology diploma program combines the competencies of the electrical and mechanical majors to produce a multi-craft industrial systems technician necessary for automated and robotic systems.

Students choosing this level of study will be educated in areas such as preventative maintenance and troubleshooting techniques that integrate knowledge of electrical, electronic, fluidic, mechanical, and computer controlled systems.

Associate Degree Program (50 additional credit hours)

Individuals who are eligible, or have already graduated from the diploma program and who meet general admission requirements, may also to pursue an associate of applied science degree in Technical Studies. **Interested students should obtain more information from their advisors.

The Industrial Systems Technology program is designed to meet the expectations of today’s high-tech industry by providing trained individuals who can immediately become an asset to a company’s operations.

IDSGraduates of the diploma program are qualified for entry level positions such as:
  • Industrial Electricians
  • Automation and Robotics Specialists

  • Hydroelectric Powerplant Trainees

A "Real-Life" Learning Experience

The Industrial Systems Technology diploma program provides a “real-life” learning experience that can be completed in 6 quarters or less.  Our online/hybrid program allows students to complete classes with maximum flexibility day or night, anytime and anywhere.  Students receive a well-balanced schedule combining online/hybrid instruction along with hands-on technical training in electrical operations, control systems, and mechanical operations.  Individuals are able to learn at their own pace while working with the same kinds of equipment found in the industry everyday.

Employment and Outlook

Depending on the program, graduates in this region earn between $16 and $25 per hour starting pay.  Though overtime, future income levels between $45,000 and $70,000 are not uncommon.  Many graduates have advanced into management positions after only a few years on the job.

No matter what the job market, job opportunities in the Industrial Systems Technology field remain steady. In every industry, men and women are behind the scenes maintaining equipment and keeping machinery operating. These individuals are highly valued and considered major contributors to the continuing operations and success of their companies.

HOPE Grant

State awarded to Georgia residents in a certificate or diploma program, regardless of grade point average. This grant covers all tuition, most fees, and book allowance.

HOPE Scholarship

State awarded to Georgia residents in an associate degree program; who are academically eligible.  This scholarship covers all tuition, most fees, and book allowance.
