Commercial Truck Driving Program

Admission Requirements
  • Be 21 years old or older. (Applicants 18-20 years old may be admitted to the program but may operate a commercial truck only in the State of Georgia and may be limited in employment opportunities.
  • Receive acceptable scores on the COMPASS Test (Reading – 40; Writing – 13; Numerical -18)
  • Obtain a current seven-year Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) from the Georgia Department of Motor Vehicle Safety. Do this before completing the rest of the admission requirements. The MVR request form is in the Admissions Packet. The date on which the report is issued must be no more than 30 days prior to the first day of class.
  • Have a valid Georgia driver’s license with no more than 8 points (5 points in one year), and no more than 4 moving violations on the Georgia Violator Scale from your 7-year MVR.
  • Have no DUI, open container, substance or drug violations in the past five years.
  • Pass a NIDA 5 drug screen. The drug screen must be administered no more than 10 business days prior to the first day of class. Students will be subject to random drug testing during their enrollment in the program.
  • POSITIVE RESULTS AT ANY TIME WILL PREVENT YOU FROM ADMISSION OR CONTINUATION OF THE ATC CTD PROGRAM FOREVER.
  • Pass a D.O.T. physical examination. (Only a D.O.T. physical will be accepted) Exam must be no more than two years old.
  • All admission criteria must be met and turned into the admissions office prior to the first day of class.

  • Because of demand, applicants will be placed onto the waiting list for the next available class according to the date and time at which the Director of Student Affairs certifies that the applicant’s admissions file is complete.
  • Any student who fails to obtain an AP Driver’s License prior to the beginning of supervised road driving will not be permitted to remain in the class but may re-enroll in a subsequent class when an AP Driver’s License is obtained. .
