Course Descriptions

CTD 101 - Fund. Of Truck Driving:
This course introduces students to the trucking industry, federal and state regulations, records and forms, industrial relations, and other non-driving activities. This course provides an emphasis on safety that will continue throughout the program.

  • Introducing Fundamentals of Truck Driving
  • Filling Out Record Forms
  • Planning the Trip
  • Performing Related Non-Driving Activities
  • Maintaining Public and Employer Relations
  • Commercial Driver Learner’s Permit

CTD 102 - Basic Operations :
This course focuses on familiarizing students with truck instruments and controls and on performing basic maneuvers required to drive safely in a controlled environment. In addition, students acquire basic coupling and uncoupling skills.

Competency Areas:

  • Introducing Vehicle Instruments and Controls
  • Operating a Tractor Trailer Through Clearance Maneuvers
  • Coupling and Uncoupling a Unit

CTD 103 - Advanced Operations:
This course focuses on developing driving skills under actual road conditions. The classroom part of the course stresses safe operating practices. Students will then integrate safe operating practices while under actual road conditions. Students drive a total of 750 documented, over-the-road miles. Note: State law requires that, whenever a vehicle is operated on public roads, an instructor must be present in the truck while a student is driving.

  • Operating a Semi-Trailer Combination Safely on Public Roads

OR

CTD 104 – Internship
The internship provides the opportunity for a student to complete his or her training with a company. The internship takes the place of CTD 103 – Advanced Operations. Working closely with the college, a company provides the advanced training, which focuses on developing driving skill. Students drive a total of 750 documented, over-the-road miles.
