Cosmetology
Cosmetology is an art, a science, and a business. A wide variety of opportunities allow Cosmetologists to emphasize their skills and talents in both the artistic and scientific areas of the occupation.
Career Opportunities
Graduates qualify to become salon managers or owners; platform artists; sales
representatives for cosmetic companies; or manicurists, stylists, or aestheticians
in salons. There are career opportunities for males and females in Cosmetology.
Program
The Cosmetology program is a sequence of courses using resources from Milady
and Pivot Point curriculum that prepares students for careers in Cosmetology.
The program emphasizes the chemistry of hair; hairstyling techniques; cutting
techniques; manicuring and pedicuring; skin care; decontamination and infection
control; bacteriology; professional ethics; salon management; and perming,
relaxing, and coloring techniques. Students gain experience working with clients
in a salon-simulated laboratory. The curriculum meets state licensing requirements
of the Georgia State Board of Cosmetology.

Services to the Public
To become competent
Cosmetologists students are required to work in a laboratory setting which allows
them to receive necessary experience for the development of skills. To receive
this experience the Cosmetology program has a salon-simulated live lab.
The services listed below are offered to the public. All work is completed by
students under the direct supervision of a certified Cosmetology instructor. We
invite you to take advantage of these great services and reduced pricing.
Operation hours of the lab (located in the Yeargin Building) are Monday, Wednesday
and Thursday, 9:00 am - 2:00 pm. Your patronage is appreciated and we try to
accommodate your needs while in a learning situation.

Admissions
Students gain admission to Cosmetology during Spring Quarter on the Elbert County Campus. Students who declare Cosmetology as their program of study gain admission on a first come, first serve basis upon completion of their general core courses.
- Program Length: A full-time student who has completed required core classes can complete the Cosmetology Diploma in four quarters.
- Education Requirements: High School graduate or GED recipient
- Entrance Dates: Winter and Summer Quarter at Athens Campus; Spring Quarter at Elbert County Campus (after completion of core courses)
- Offered: Athens and Elbert County Campuses
- Malpractice Insurance: Students enrolled in the Cosmetology program must have malpractice insurance, and they may purchase this insurance from the cashier. The group policy runs from July 1 through June 30 regardless of the date of payment by students. The insurance company does not prorate student payments.

Associate Degree
Individuals who are graduates of, or eligible to graduate from, the Cosmetology
diploma program may receive an Associates Degree in Personal/Public Services by
completing an additional 50 quarter credit hours of coursework. Interested students
should see their advisors to obtain assistance in completing processes associated
with readmission and/or change of major.
