Eligibility for E-Learning@ATC

Advisors look at the academic performance of students to determine whether they are eligible to take online courses. To be eligible to register for online classes: students must have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 and be in good academic standing at the time of registration. Students coming off academic dismissal are not be eligible to register for online classes during their first quarter of re-enrollment. The registrar will administratively withdraw students from their online classes for the upcoming term if they are placed on academic probation at the end of the current term. Students who need to take multiple learning support courses in one content area (for example, ENG 097, ENG 098, and ENG 099) will not be allowed to take their first program-level course (ENG 191) online. Students who must complete one learning support course in a content area are discouraged from taking their first program level course online.

Advisors consider students’ overall performance in online classes when determining registration eligibility. Furthermore, students who failed a specific course or withdrew failing from a specific course will not be allowed to take an online version of that course. Finally, students who have never taken an online course must complete the Orientation Process for Online Classes before meeting with their advisor.

Steps to Register and Begin Your Online or Hybrid Course(s)

Step 1:

Make sure you have the computer access necessary to take an online course.

You need regular, frequent, and dependable access to a computer that has a connection to the Internet. Click here for a list of hardware and software requirements.

Step 2:

Complete the Orientation Process for Online Classes.

You must complete the orientation process before you meet with your advisor.

Make sure you understand how online courses work and that you have the skills to succeed in an online environment.

Step 3:

See an academic program advisor

You must see a program advisor before registering for an online course. At that time, you must turn in your completed E-Learning Student Checklist. Advising and registration dates are advertised on ATC’s website, TV monitors and bulletin boards on campus.

Step 4:

Register and pay for the courses.

Please note: Permission to register does NOT guarantee you a space in the course. All online courses have a limited number of spaces, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis by quarter hours completed.

Step 5:

You MUST e-mail the online instructor as soon as you enroll in an online course.

The instructor will need your e-mail address to send you information concerning the course before the beginning of the quarter. You must use your @student.athenstech.edu email address for ALL communication with your instructor.

To obtain the instructor's e-mail address, go to the online course list and select the name of the instructor for your class or classes.

Step 6:

Obtain course materials from the Athens Technical College bookstore or another source.

NOTICE: Some online/hybrid courses use books that require an "Access Key." This Access Key is ONLY available with new books, or purchased directly from the publisher. It is your responsibility to check with the instructor of your online course to determine if the course will require an Access Key. Please do this before you purchase your books for online/hybrid classes.

The bookstore is located in the H building near the Student Center and Jittery Joe’s.

Usual bookstore hours:
Monday - Thursday: 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Friday: 8 a.m. - Noon

The bookstore may have extended hours during registration and the first few days of the quarter. Please call 706-355-5125 to confirm bookstore hours.
