Georgia Board of Nursing Appoints Lori Callahan to Education Committee

The Georgia Board of Nursing has appointed Lori Callahan, Athens Technical College Nursing program chair, to serve on their Education Committee. As part of the Georgia Board of Nursing Education Committee, Callahan will fill a two-year term, which started in February 2015.
Callahan is a 1988 graduate of the Medical College of Georgia (Athens) with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She also earned a Master of Science in Nursing, Nurse Practitioner, with a specialization in Women’s Health and Nursing Education, from Georgia State University in 1997.
Prior to starting her career in education, Callahan was employed as a registered nurse and Assistant Unit Director for the Family Care Unit at Athens Regional Medical Center. She has also worked as a nurse educator in Associate of Science (ASN) and Bachelor of Science (BSN) programs for public and proprietary nursing programs throughout Florida, South Carolina, and Georgia.
In 2012, Callahan was named program chair for the Associate of Science Nursing program at Athens Technical College. She also serves as an evaluator with the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICC). With the support of Nursing faculty and administration, Callahan led program through reaccreditation with ACEN in fall 2014.
