The Culinary Arts program at Athens Technical College will hold its first Top Chef Student Culinary Competition and Fundraiser from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25. The event will take place in the auditorium of the Kenneth C. Easom Building on the college's Athens Campus.
Audience members will have the opportunity to taste samples of the various dishes prepared by Culinary Arts students. Door prizes, including gift cards from the Foundry Park Inn and Spa and Rafferty's Restaurant, will be given away as well.
The two-phase competition tests the student chefs' basic culinary skills and ability to execute a four-course appetizer menu. In the first phase, every team must prepare a food buffet table. The tables must have at least four mandatory entries, all with a common theme. This phase is designed to showcase the team's ability to work together to produce a work of culinary art. The tables should be the epitome of beauty, skill, and perfection. The second phase is a relay-style event in which the chefs race against the clock to complete various culinary tasks.
