In the fall of 2011, Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal announced that Athens Technical College, the College of Coastal Georgia, Georgia Gwinnett College, and Georgia Piedmont College would use a $1 million grant from Complete College America and lead an effort to redesign learning support coursework at Georgia's colleges.
Complete College America was founded in 2009 as a national nonprofit to work with states to increase the number of Americans with quality career certificates or college degrees and to close attainment gaps for traditionally underrepresented populations. Athens Technical College, the College of Coastal Georgia, Georgia Gwinnett College, and Georgia Piedmont College, are using the grant to pilot innovative remediation programs that will help students complete these learning support courses faster so they can then finish their degrees, diplomas, or certificates in a timelier manner.
Gov. Deal also charged all the state's universities and colleges to formulate plans on improving graduation rates under his Complete College Georgia initiative. For more information on Complete College America, Complete College Georgia and Athens Technical College's role in these initiatives see (THESE LINKS)
