Samsung Awards Scholarships to Students
Date: Mar 02,2015
Samsung recently awarded $9,000 in scholarships to Athens Technical College students. During the Samsung Mobile U, held December 1-3, 2014, students experienced a variety of emerging technologies in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) areas. Based on that experience, scholarship applicants were asked to describe a technology idea that could have a positive impact on the college.
Morgan Grizzle, a Practical Nursing student, was awarded the top scholarship prize of $5,000 for her proposal. She submitted an idea that would incorporate educational activities and test taking into interactive games on mobile devices.
“This scholarship will help me continue my education in the nursing field,” stated Grizzle. “I was excited to have the opportunity to submit my idea.”
John Scarborough, a student in the Networking Specialist program, was awarded second place and a $3,000 scholarship for his proposal based on using technology to monitor campus parking lot capacities.
Zachary Klimek received third place and a $1,000 scholarship. Klimek is a Computer Support Specialist student.
“In providing this scholarship opportunity, Samsung recognizes the importance of investing in students who may one day contribute to the scientific community,” said Dr. Leslie Crickenberger, vice president for student affairs.
In addition to the student scholarships, Samsung provided a $5,000 grant to the Emerging Technologies program. With these funds, the Emerging Technologies program will be able to purchase additional classroom teaching tools.
