Grainger Awards Tools for Tomorrow Scholarships
Date: December 16, 2015
Caleb Wiff, an Electrical Systems Technology student, and Zachary Walton, an Automotive Collision Repair student, were each recently awarded $2,000 Grainger Tools for Tomorrow® scholarships by Grainger, a local distributor of facilities maintenance supplies. The scholarship program offers financial assistance for tuition and books to outstanding students earning an associate degree, diploma, or certificate in skilled trades or public safety fields at 125 community colleges nationwide.
Wiff, a U.S. Army veteran, credits experiences he had building things with his father as one of the reasons he’s interested in electrical work. He also enjoys the scientific aspect of the electrical systems industry. During the Grainger Tools for Tomorrow® scholarship presentation, Wiff expressed his gratitude by sharing how the scholarship will help his GI Bill funds go farther as he continues his education.
After earning an Automotive Technology associate degree at Athens Technical College, Walton enrolled in the Automotive Collision Repair major. He would also like to pursue a business degree to develop a well-rounded education to prepare for a career in the automotive industry. He credits his fascination with cars and their engineering as part of his drive for completing the auto-related majors.
Grainger is proud to partner with community colleges to help students get the education and resources needed to successfully join the industrial trade workforce. Students also receive a Westward® toolkit to jump start their career upon graduation.
According to Athens Technical College Interim President Dr. Gail Thaxton, “Grainger is a long-time partner to Athens Tech. The company puts ‘skin in the game’ to support education and deserving students through scholarships and tool kits which ultimately allows more student to graduate and enter the workforce.”
“Grainger is investing in the future of our customers, the industrial skilled trades and public safety through the Grainger Tools for Tomorrow Scholarship Program,” said Walter Wellborn Grainger Market Manager in Athens, Ga. “We are proud to partner with Athens Technical College and believe business and community college partnerships are one solution to building a strong workforce.”
