ATHENS TECHNICAL COLLEGE TO HOLD 2024 COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY

Athens, GA – Dr. Andrea D. Daniel, President of Athens Technical College, is pleased to announce that Representative Houston Gaines, will be the key note speaker for the Athens Technical College Commencement ceremony. The ceremony will take place Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Classic Center in Athens, Georgia.

Representative Houston Gaines was elected to the State House in 2018 for District 120 and is serving his third term in the General Assembly, representing portions of Barrow, Clarke, Jackson, and Oconee Counties. Representative Gaines works at Carter Engineering which offers in-house site planning and landscape architecture, as well as, civil and agricultural engineering.

In the House of Representatives, he has championed a number of important priorities for his community, and has authored 14 bills that have passed the legislature. Currently, he serves on the Ethics, Ways & Means, Appropriations, Insurance, Public Health, Urban Affairs, Creative Arts & Entertainment, and Government Affairs Committees. Representative Gaines also serves as Vice Chairman of the Higher Education Appropriations subcommittee.

President Daniel states, “We are so pleased to have Representative Gaines as the keynote commencement speaker. He is a staunch supporter of technical education and greatly supports workforce development in the region and in the State of Georgia.”

Athens Technical College anticipates more than 2,400 graduates are eligible to participate in this years’ ceremony. Over 500 graduates will receive an associate degree, 235 will receive a diploma, and more than 1,800 graduates will receive technical certificates of credit.
